Gaming Emporium
Love the hobby side of miniatures gaming? Not so stoked, but want pretty armies? Either way, join us the third Thursday of each month for our new miniatures workshop series! Our regular group painting sessions are resuming as a combination hobby hangout and casual seminar. Each month will feature interactive discussion on particular topics, led by community veterans and guided by participants’ interests. Everybody from complete beginners to past-masters are welcome. Bring your latest project to get a little work done while talking shop, or come with nothing but questions and get started on an awesome new hobby. Feel free to bring your own supplies and tools, or to use an available collection of paints, brushes, and tools provided by the shop. We will also be setting up additional focused, painting-appropriate lighting for the evening.
The fall 2022 Third Thursday Minis series will feature the following calendar:
Thursday, October 20 / Boot Camp: We’ll start from the beginning, going over the very basics of miniatures preparation and painting. Possible topics include an introduction to the different scales and materials; basic preparation and assembly; priming, base coating, washes; and speed paints (e.g., Games Workshop Contrast Paint).
Thursday, November 17 / the Long War: We’ll keep working on our models with some intermediate techniques. Possible topics include basic edging, drybrushing, shading, and highlights; weathering techniques; custom scenic bases; and technical and special effect paints.
Thursday, December 15 / Showtime: We’ll add some extra pizazz to our valiant champions and document their glories. Possible topics include decals, custom and otherwise; masking and stenciling; resin effects; clear coats; and, importantly after all that work, miniatures photography.
